Lifesaving training opportunity for budding Truro first aiders

Lifesaving skills are on offer for budding first aiders at a course run by The British Red Cross in Truro next month.

The charity is inviting people from across Cornwall to learn simple first aid skills, which could make all the difference in an emergency.

The training course takes place on Thursday, October 4 at the Red Cross office in Truro. The one day course aims to give participants the knowledge and confidence to become life-savers if a colleague, friend or family member falls ill or is injured.

The course covers common first aid scenarios including what to do if someone is choking, unconscious or bleeding, and how to treat a burn or fracture. It will also help participants spot the warning signs of a heart attack or stroke, and give them the tools to step in and act.

Vince Bethermin, community based first aid coordinator in Cornwall, said: "This is an open course available to individuals, and is an opportunity for people to learn some very simple first aid techniques.

"The idea of the course is to make it extremely accessible so people go away with the basic life-saving skills we all need in our daily lives, and the confidence to put them into practice."

The course takes place between 9am and 5pm at the British Red Cross office, Lighterage Hill, Newham, Truro, TR1 2XR. The course costs £60.00.
