Supersized swedes and mammoth marrows at Kehelland

COLOSSAL carrots, supersized swedes and mammoth marrows will all be on display at Kehelland Trust this weekend.
The Kehelland horticultural centre venue is hosting its 16th annual giant vegetable competition on Saturday, with more than 100 entries expected.
Trust manager Robert Williamson said: “Size really is everything at this show. No marks are awarded for how beautiful any of the vegetables are, they just have to measure up.
“We have added other categories over the years to satisfy the more creative growers out there, the 'most unusual looking vegetable' and a 'vegetable creature' to name but two.
“We are fortunate that we have a good partnership with Kehelland Village School who always have a go at making vegetable creatures.
“Our clients enjoy taking part and have won prizes for giant vegetables grown on site in previous years.
”Entry forms are available from Kehelland Trust reception. The day runs from 11am until 4pm. Entry is just 50p.
Giant marrows with arrows will guide visitors from Treswithian roundabout. Refreshments, including a selection of cakes on a vegetable theme, will be available throughout the day. Prize giving will be at 3.30pm.
