Flag flying plan for Porthleven harbour

The company owning Porthleven’s Harbour Head has applied for permission to fly flags there.

Trevor Osborne of the Harbour and Dock Company has applied for advertisement consent for seven flags on five-metre flagpoles to be installed on the Harbour Head.

The application states that one flag will display the harbour company’s logo, one the Union Flag, another the St Piran flag and four will show designs of the institute and seagulls.

Some residents have contacted the Packet to say the flags are already flying.

"Could soon be" they already are !! and in my opinion they spoil the look of the harbour and are totally out of keeping. I object.

There was a time that flags were hoisted on special occasions only ,St Pirans day for example. dont see the need to have them up permanently

Oh, the wording in the article above has been altered since I posted my first comment, I quoted "could soon be" from the original article.

The flags would look more in keeping somewhere like Newquay or Padstow, somewhere more commercialized, not in Porthleven, that is, or was :( more unique. There are too many of them, one St Piran's flag would have been ample, although preferably none. Wonder what they will look like after the winter gales. What is this sudden obssession everywhere with flags? The ones in Helston are quite nice as they are relevant colours and small. Don't think much of the do it and then apply for permission attitude, smacks of confidence. I'm installing a mobile phone mast in my front garden.

What is the point in owning something which may benefit others, if you are going to ruin what you own by spoiling the look of it.

The flags remind me of the entrance to somewhere like a huge Trago Mills or B&Qs. What next, stick windmill on the Institute.

It is a shame the Ntional Trust do not own Porthleven harbour, then it wouldn't be visibly spoilt.

Previous post SHOULD have read National Trust. Incidentally, the flag poles rattle.

Forget the flags and put something more constructive up, like more notices saying, Do not feed the gulls.
