Armed police were called out to St Day after members of the public reported seeing someone with guns and heard shooting.

Officers found two youths with loaded air rifles, who told them they were shooting at targets.

At Truro Youth Court both youths, aged 17, from the Redruth area, and who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to having loaded weapons in a public place on June 17.

When the officers arrived, one of the two took them to a place where he showed them the guns, then hidden.

One of the youths had court appearances for possessing a drug, disorderly behaviour, wounding, battery and attempted robbery. He was given a six month youth rehabilitation order and told to pay £20 costs.

His solicitor Neil Lewin said he had only intended to shoot at targets and never wanted to cause harassment to anybody else.

The other youth had a police warning for battery. His solicitor Charles Hulley said there was never any suggestion that the two of them had been waving the weapons around in an aggressive manner. This youth was given a six month referral order and told to pay £20 costs.

The magistrates made an order for both weapons to be destroyed.
