Porthleven pre-school youngsters celebrate graduation day

First Steps Pre-School in Porthleven has celebrated a graduation day for 14 young children who are now moving on to primary school.

First Steps is a full day nursery catering for children aged zero to five.

Festivities took place at the school with graduates, their parents and staff.

The ceremony began with the presentation of certificates, throwing of graduation caps and songs performed by the youngsters.

Dawn Page, manager at First Steps, described it as “quite an emotional day,” as it was the end of an era for some. Lots of parents and staff were in tears as many of the children had started their educational journey as babies in the nursery room. I would like to express my thanks to all the team at First Steps for their commitment in providing love, care and teaching for young children through fun and enjoyable educational activities.”

She said this had resulted in children being “confident, capable learners” ready for the next step on their “educational journey.”
