Stithians lake hosts 'Big Swim'
12:00pm Tuesday 17th July 2012 in Cornwall
Sunday 8 July saw ‘The Big Cornwall Swim’ open water swimming event return for its second year at Stithians Lake. The event organised by Carrick Leisure saw 135 competitors supported by more than 200 spectators from across the country.
The race programme included distances of 800m, 1900m, and 3800m. Organisers would like to give a special thanks to Hayle Surf Life Saving Club, who in conjunction with the team at South West Lakes, provided excellent safety support for the swims.
Thanks also go to the event's sponsors as well as the Cornwall Amateur Swimming Association (ASA), and British Triathlon who provided Officials for the event, Southwest Lakes Trust, for hosting the day, St Johns Ambulance, for emergency back-up, as well as South West Water, and the Stithians Lake Café, for providing much needed refreshments to competitors and their families and friends.
The race day conditions were excellent with moderate temperatures and even some welcomed spells of sunshine. The competitors swam very well to provide a fantastic set of results for the event’s 2nd year.
