A popular Camborne children's centre could be in for a £5,000 boost if it wins the most votes in a high street bank's regional funding contest.

The Sunshine Room, at Camborne Nursery School, has been shortlisted in the Lloyds Banking Group Community Fund and is up against three other organisations across Cornwall and Plymouth for the top prize.

Sue Thomas, family services co-ordinator at the centre, said: “This amount of money would go towards funding play groups and equipment over the coming year and would be so valuable to us and local families that use our services “Sunshine Room funding has been completely cut and we now have to fund raise to keep the service running. We run up to ten play groups a week for children aged 0-3 years and it is estimated that almost one in three children in and around Camborne have attended over the last ten years.”

If the centre is successful in securing funding, it will be used to support two groups - “Move and Tumble” is designed to help children and their carers enjoy a healthy lifestyle through movement, play and songs and the baby group will provide guidance for parents with children under 18 months, offering support with breast feeding, early development and weaning.
