Tractors took to the roads around Helston and the Lizard Peninsula over the Bank Holiday to fundraise for sufferers of Motor Neurone Disease.

The run has been held for the last three years in memory of Adrian Macarthy from Releath near Burras, Wendron. He died aged in his 50s from the condition.

His friends and family now fundraise for the Cornwall branch of Motor Neurone Disease Association by holding a vintage tractor run, starting from the car park opposite Coronation Park.

They then slowly chug along the back roads, travelling between 10mph and 12mph, through Poldhu, Mullion and Ruan Minor to Lizard Village, where they enjoy lunch.

Helston tractor enthusiast Ken Philpott, who helped organise the event, said that while numbers were down a bit on the previous years, due to jubilee events taking place in the area, there were still 13 tractors involved.

Supporters came from as far afield as Redruth and St Austell, although the majority were from the Helston and Lizard area.

So far £140 has been collected, with money still coming in.

Mr Philpott said the event enjoyed “lovely weather,” adding: “Thank you to the people that took part and who gave money.”
