'Pick up your prescriptions' Bank Holiday warning
12:10pm Friday 25th May 2012 in Cornwall
Patients are being reminded to order their repeat prescriptions now and collect them before we head into the four-day Bank Holiday weekend.
With GP surgeries due to close for the Jubilee break, time is running out for patients to ensure they have enough medications to get them through.
Most GP surgeries will be open on Friday, June 1, but will then be closed until Wednesday, June.
Bridget Sampson, Director of Primary Care and Medicines Management for NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly, said: “We have an extra day to this Bank Holiday with the Jubilee celebration, so patients need to ensure they have adequate medications to get them through four days when their GP surgeries will be closed.
“Patients need to be ordering their prescriptions now to give them enough time to collect them by Friday, June 1.”
Your local pharmacy can also provide a range of other services such emergency hormonal contraception (EHC), and emergency supplies of daily contraception pills without a prescription if you run out. To find out about opening times, check with the local pharmacy or go online to NHS Choices website www.nhs.uk and use the ‘Find and Choose Services’ section.
Bridget added: “Pharmacists can help in many more ways than you may think and there will be Serco doctors on duty the whole time, accessible by calling 0845 2000 227. It’s also important that people continue to choose services well and remember that Accident and Emergency (A&E) or 999 is for a critical or life-threatening situation or serious injury only.”
