The Helitots nursery children of RNAS Culdrose are not only excited about the arrival of the Olympic Torch this Friday but are planning on stealing the show.

Together with the Little Merlins pre-school from Helston, these budding young Olympians will be doing their own torch relay the day of the big arrival.

They have even built and painted a gold Jumbo Jet to deliver the torch before their relay commences.

The event will take place at the astroturf at RNAS Culdrose at 10am on Friday, March 18. Twelve future athletes will relay the torch to a mock up of London, which will include a replica of Big Ben built by the children.

A nursery spokesperson said: “The children and staff are very excited to be part of such a historic event; we hope this is a memory which will stay with children for years to come.”

There will be a variety of Royal Navy, MOD guard and other parents attending the event.

RNAS Culdose is currently very busy preparing for the arrival for the Olympic Torch on Friday evening and is working hard to make sure the important event is well hosted and secure.

SLt Byron Linn said: “We are all eagerly anticipating the arrival of the torch. I personally feel very privileged to be involved down at this fantastic air station.”

Helitots was the first naval day nursery, registered in 1994. It provides childcare facilities for service personnel and civilian workers connected with RNAS Culdrose.
