A gang who burgled a Helston caravan park and forced open an ATM with a crowbar have been jailed for a total of 20 years.
The crime was committed in July last year by a gang from the Merseyside, who trawled the country stealing ATMS and the cash inside them from colleges, service stations, amusement parks and caravan sites.
In Helston they burgled the bar area of a caravan park bar and broke into the park's free-standing ATM, stealing a large amount of cash from inside.
This was to be their last crime, however, as not long afterwards detectives scouring CCTV cameras stationed on the M5, going in and out of Cornwall, saw a Renault Megane hired by one of the gang.
Police searched the homes of three of the members, finding £3,500 in cash, a heavy-duty angle grinder, a five-tonne jack, a large number of cash bags, dust masks and a 2011 British Road Atlas in one.
David Owens, aged 35, Shaun Ennis, aged 41, Kevin Caveney, aged 26, were jailed for a string of offences, with Robin Vaughan, aged 39, pleading guilty to assisting offenders.
