The first traders' street market in Helston last month proved so popular that it is to become a permanent monthly fixture.

The next market will take place on Saturday, December 17 in Coinagehall Street, to give shoppers the chance to pick up some last minute gifts.

After that the market will take place on the last Saturday of every month, throughout 2012 - apart from December next year, when it will be held on Saturday the 15th - following an agreement by Helston Town Council's amenities committee.

Town Clerk Chris Dawson said the council had circulated a questionnaire to stallholders and town centre businesses following last month's market and the feedback was “very much in favour” of holding another market prior to Christmas.

Councillor Sue Swift, chairman of the amenities committee, said: “I am very pleased that this first market was successful for the businesses that took part. As the amenities committee is mindful of the difficulties faced by in-town businesses, we are keen to make every effort to help encourage more people to make use of the wide variety of goods on offer. I hope as many traders as possible will sign up for next year.”

Anyone wanting to book one of the 30 pitches available for each market should contact the town clerk's office on 01326 572063.
