Guests at a charity gala dinner in Redruth were joined by a rather unusual guest this year – an interactive robot.

The Penventon Hotel in Redruth was once again the setting for the annual festive fundraiser for Children’s Hospice South West’s Precious Lives Appeal.

Among the treats was a visit from the famous Titan the Robot, designed and built by Cyberstein Robots Ltd in Newquay.

Has been around the world, including on stage with singer Rihanna, as well as shopping centres and holiday parks around the UK.

Other performers included comedian Johnny Cowling, soul singer Jay Washington, Kernow Pipes and Drum Band and Heyl Town Band.

The evening proved a huge success, raising over £2,000 for the charity, which is building a children’s hospice at St Austell.

Helen Read, from Truro, who organised the event for the second year running with her husband Graham, said: “We are both so pleased to be able to help this charity, which is dear to our hearts.

“Thank you to everyone who attended. If you want to come again next year on the last Monday before Christmas, please book early as this is now being recognised as one of the best charity black tie Christmas Gala Dinners in Cornwall!”

She also thanked the performers and sponsors Polgoon Vineyard, Skinners Brewery, the Penventon Hotel, Perfect Party, and Cornish Decorative Balloons.

Mary Murfin, community fundraiser for Children’s Hospice South West, said: “Thank you to everyone who attended the event, and particular thanks to the organisers Graham and Helen Read.”
