Twelve French students were given lessons in how to make a proper Cornish pasty on a visit to Cornwall College Camborne.

The group from Lycée Jean Queinnec College in Malestroit, Brittany teamed up with students on the employability class in a contest to make the most authentic pasty.

The pasties made by all three teams were marked on quality and appearance. Solène Drean, Cindy Galminche, Samantha Lenglet, Ophélie Brohan, Katie Williams and Declan Harrington’s pasty was judged the best, scooping them a trophy for their efforts.

Winning team member Declan Harrington, 17, a business extended diploma student from Camborne said: “I really enjoyed the experience of working with other students from a different country. It was a good opportunity to put my team building and communication skills to the test.”

Accompanying teacher, Madame Joëlle Salaün from Lycée Jean Queinnec College said: “Cornwall College is teaching their students good teamwork and leadership skills as your students have worked so well with ours, they involved them in the activity and supported them all the way.

“We have had a very good time here; everyone thoroughly enjoyed the pasty making challenge. We are planning to visit again in March 2011 and we are looking into making this a regular trip. ”
