A Perranporth businessman has been jailed for six years for raping a 19-year-old drunken student he met at the Corn Exchange night club in Camborne last November.
Kebab shop owner Fatih Kandemir, a 26-year-old Turkish national who is married with a child, was convicted at Truro Crown Court yesterday by a jury who took 38 minutes to decide on their unanimous guilty verdict. Kandemir had denied rape.
He must sign the register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
The verdict has been welcomed by the police. Detective Sergeant Dave Ford said: “The prosecution of Kandemir resulted from a detailed police enquiry and we welcome the jury’s verdict.
“This was an extremely unpleasant attack on a young woman who had been enjoying a night out.
“We would like to thank the many witnesses who came forward to help the police with their enquiries, resulting in today’s conviction. In particular, I would like to acknowledge the assistance of the door staff at the Corn Exchange in Camborne.”
