Falmouth based tugs remain on standby for cargo ship

Two tugs remain nearby the 3,253 tonne cargo vessel Antigoni which lost engine power this morning off The Lizard.

The Lizard lifeboat had earlier gone to the aid of the Peruvian vessel with a crew of 14 on board but has now returned to station.

The two tugs, one being the Maritime Coastguard Agency’s Anglian Princess currently based in Falmouth, will remain with the cargo ship until repairs have been carried out and she is on her way.

A spokesperson for the MCA said conditions at sea were not good and there were gale force winds at times, but those involved were confident power would be restored to the engines soon and the vessel on her way.
