Truro Cathedral artist displays work

Local artist Karenanne Knight has produced 26 stunning pictures telling the story of Truro Cathedral through a unique blend of word and image.

Last summer Karenanne spent time talking to members of staff and visitors to the cathedral. She did so in order to uncover some of these people’s favourite parts of the building. During the winter she retreated to her studio and began a process of combining word and image Karenanne said: “I talked with so many people, and they all told me their story, their understanding, impressions, sensations and perceptions of the Cathedral, the space, its atmosphere and ambience. They were all very different, as one might expect, but one factor arose again and again. It was that spiritual majesty and vastness of the cathedral that created such individual responses, individual stories, yet collective understanding, and which I was to use as a central theme within my work.”

The essence of the exhibition works through its narrative with Karenanne combining text and image in a collage of people and building.

Karenanne outlines her aim for the exhibition, “My hope is that with my particular illustrative style, I have succeeded in portraying these stories, thoughts, attitudes and viewpoints where text and image are fused together to portray the narrative people trusted in me. I hope that it might provoke thought and discussion by those who look into and through the individual works and also through the collective nature of the exhibition as a whole.”

Karenanne’s exhibition continues in the Cathedral until the 29th July. Open 10-5pm Exhibition Free.
