Sevens in Cornwall prove a hit

Members of the Cornwall Austin Seven Club came from across Cornwall and Devon to support the Club's first three-day rally held at Stithians Lake.

It was a significant departure from the one-day event at Polwhele School, Truro, which had been run successfully for eight years. Members were able to camp or come and go as they wished during the three days. Their immaculately maintained and colourful 'Sevens' had been built by the Austin Motor Co., at Longbridge, Birmingham between 1925 and 1938.

The main part of the weekend was the 40-mile run throughout Saturday when the 'Sevens' followed various routes to visit Gwennap Pit and Carn Brea during the morning. After lunch at Gweek, they had the opportunity to visit Poldhu and Manaccan Church before finishing the run with a Cornish Cream tea at a member's house in the Meneage area. Once again several new members were enjoying another outing in their car whilst the debut 'Seven' was an immaculately restored 1935 MK1 Ruby belonging to Nick and Teresa Rouse of Redruth. Whenever 'Sevens' pass by they always draw people's attention and when parked for the visits people appeared from anywhere to ask questions and admire them; most were able to recall their own experiences in the family 'Seven' years ago. On Saturday evening the local folk group 'Rickety Bridge', led by member Clive Peerless, provided the entertainment, with several members also playing their own instruments.

A nature walk around part of Stithians Lake was followed by a short Treasure Hunt around a few local roads on Sunday morning. Throughout the weekend members were able to share their experiences of work being done on their cars, especially from those still restoring a' Seven'. The event was considered to be a successful first three-day rally which the Club will aim to repeat next year when celebrating their 10th Anniversary.
