Truro’s Royal Cornwall Hospital has denied reports that a ceiling has collapsed on one of the wards.
A spokesperson said that following the hot weather recently the flat roof of the Wheal Prosper ward had developed some cracks and as a result was leaking after the heavy rain last night and this morning. The ward has a suspended ceiling and a small number of tiles have absorbed moisture and had to be removed.
Four patients from one bay were relocated to other parts of the hospital last night and the ward will be temporarily closed later today until tomorrow afternoon whilst repair works to the roof are carried out.
The spokesperson said: “Staff have responded extremely well to the problem, repairs have got underway quickly and arrangements are being made to move the small number of patients on the ward to other areas.”
Truro has been suffering from a deluge of rain this morning, which has worked its way up from Penzance and Helston up the county.
Morlaix Avenue has had problems with flooding and Arch Hill, while Sainsbury’s was reportedly hit by lightning, causing problems to the tills.
