The Liberal Democrats have announced the members of their shadow cabinet at Cornwall Council.
The Lib Dems pledged to give “constructive opposition” to the council’s cabinet, which is made up of a mix of Conservative, Mebyon Kernow and Independent councillors, led by Alec Robertson, Conservative councillor for Helston North.
Doris Ansari, Lib Dem group leader and former chairman of the old Cornwall county council, said: “Cornwall needs a stable administration and it’s right that the Tories should form that administration.”
She said the shadow cabinet’s role would be to challenge and scrutinise the ruling parties, “to make sure the interests of the people of Cornwall are protected.”
Mrs Ansari, councillor for Truro Tregolls, added: “This stance is a clear decision not to cling to well paid cabinet posts but to work constructively to ensure that council services are maintained and improved and that council tax is kept down. We will not oppose for opposition sake, we will support any proposals that benefit the people of Cornwall.”
Deputy leader in the shadow cabinet will be Robin Teverson, councillor for St Mewan.
