Members of Mullion Methodist Church have held a celebratory tea party to mark the end of a fundraising drive, which has seen tens of thousand of pounds raised for improvements.

For the last few years the congregation has been raising the cash need to make sure the church has a warm and easy welcome for disabled visitors, including work to install a disabled lift and toilet.

Initially the work was estimated to cost £66,000 but by the time it was finished this had risen to £135,000.

While grants of £25,000 were secured towards the cost, the rest of the money was raised thanks to the dedication of church members and a varied array of cash raising events.

Pauline Rowse, senior steward and stalwart fundraiser said that everyone had been so supportive with the whole community has been involved over the years.

And that it was lovely to see such a nice mix of people at the party reminiscing about the fundraising events.

Among the events over the years were cake sales, scarecrow festivals, beetle drives, a week-long music festival and the very popular lunch time concerts.

Mrs Rowse said the fact that everyone had banded together and helped had been the true blessing of the fundraising drive.

The service at the tea party was led by Reverend Sylvia Burgoyne, with David Lugg playing the organ.
