A man who fell 40 feet over a cliff near a National Trust car park remains seriously ill in hospital today.

The incident took place at Godrevy, near Gwithian on the north coast, at around 11am on Saturday.

The man, who is in his 40s and from Launceston, was treated by lifeguards and ambulance staff at the scene, before he was airlifted to Derriford Hospital.

A police spokesperson said he remains in intensive care.

A National Trust spokesperson confirmed that the man fell near the Red River, close to the car park at Godrevy, from a section of cliff that was away from the main path.

The beach car park was closed to new vehicles to allow emergency services to get access and treat the man, but was reopened later that afternoon.
