A new community magazine has launched in Helston advertising what the town has to offer.

It has been produced by Helston Community Interest Company as its first major project, with 15,000 copies printed to be distributed to businesses in Helston, as well as hotels, guest houses, holiday parks and visitor attractions in the surrounding area.

The 52-page magazine Discover Helston features articles and photographs about local events, sports clubs and attractions, as well as adverts for businesses.

Malcolm Oliver, from Helston CIC, said: "Helston has suffered from ten years of recession, austerity, business closures and subsequent vacant premises, business rates, closures of three banks, subsequent loss of visits to the town from holiday makers and locals to other towns and a total lack of investment.

"We identified that in order to improve the situation we need to make Helston a destination town.

"Our first major project was to produce a magazine promoting the town. We would like to thank all the businesses that have advertised in the magazine for their support; without them we would not have been able to produce the magazine."

The cost of the magazine was fully covered by the advertising, meaning there was no need to call in the agreed back-up grant from Helston Town Council.
