As many families came together on Sunday for Father's Day spare a thought for the volunteer coastguards called away from celebrations when an emergency call came in.

Mullion Coastguard Rescue Team were paged at 1.30pm after an elderly woman fell badly on the Lizard Point coastal path.

She had been walking the path when she tripped, resulting in a broken wrist.

The coastguards helped her from the cliff to their vehicle and drove her back to her hotel, from where she could seek further treatment.

It was the second shout at Lizard Point in two days for the team, who had been summoned to help a family cut off by the tide on Saturday.
