With Brexit still looming high on the agenda, border control is one of the key issues still to be resolved - but it seems Cornwall might have taken matters into its own hands and called in the experts.

This US Customs and Border Protection vehicle was spotted parked in Mullion at the weekend, complete with its US Department of Homeland Security badge and lights strip across the roof.

Customs and Border Protection acts as the USA's main border control organisation, preventing people from entering the country illegally and from taking in harmful or illegal items.

This field operations vehicle was parked up outside a house in Laflouder Fields on Saturday, although its purpose in the area remains a mystery.

Perhaps with its long history of smuggling during the 18th century, Cornwall is taking no chances - particularly when just around the coast from Mullion is Gunwalloe, renowned for its smuggling past.

Of course Cornwall is no stranger to protecting its borders in more recent times. A toll bridge separates the county from Plymouth and back in 2010 there was fierce opposition when the government proposed creating a new constituency that would have seen a merging of Cornwall and Devon's borders.

Admittedly there may also be a rather more mundane reason for the car's appearance over the Easter bank holiday. Indeed, it now bears a UK numberplate, rather than an American one, which suggests that while it appears to be authentic the car may be used for a different purpose these days.
