This May, support worker Brian Pepper will walk almost 300 miles around the South West Coast Path, aiming to raise £5,000 for the PorthEden mental health service.

Brian, who works with people with learning disabilities, will start his walk on May 1 at the Devon border and hopes to complete his trek in Cremyll near Plymouth between May 15 and 19.

Cornwall's residents have come to Brian's aid and offered places for him to stay, but he still needs somewhere to lay his head in Widemouth Bay on May 1, St Ives on May 7, Penberth on May 9, Portholland on May 14 and Polperro on May 16.

Brian said: “I’m a bloke with a pair of legs who wants raise awareness of mental health in Cornwall. Everyone is welcome to come and join me for a stroll and if anyone does have a spare room and could offer me somewhere to sleep it would be greatly appreciated.”

PorthEden is a social enterprise focusing on mental health crisis that started on a kitchen table in Cornwall in 2016. Since then PorthEden has pioneered the crisis café model in Cornwall, running cafes in Redruth and Camborne with the support of Cornwall Neighbourhoods For Change (CN4C).

Having branched out with sessions at local GP surgeries and digital health initiatives, PorthEden has also introduced a scheme to broaden community support involving local businesses. A community event will take place in May 2019 to showcase mental health awareness week. This year’s event takes place in Helston.
