Verdant Brewing Company crowdfunded a whopping £1,353,320 to expand its brewery.

The team smashed their target of £500,000 and are now set to relocate to Kernick Industrial Estate, double the current production level and take on more staff.

The company has been based in a small unit in Falmouth's Tregoniggie Industrial Estate since 2014 and has been struggling to keep up with demand.

James Heffron, Adam Robertson and Richard White have applied for planning permission to install a new brewery in a unit previously occupied by a marine engineering company.

This would include putting up two external, 9.8m malt storage silos, seven chimney vents and solar panels to help provide power.

The company has also applied for planning permission to put up signs.

A statement from the Verdant Team said: "Things have been advancing pretty fast. We have a fully formed brewery design, which is going into production very soon and will be installed (fingers crossed) in October.

"In preparation for that we have already started work on the new building, which is shaping up slowly but very nicely indeed. We hope to have a fully functioning brewery by the end of November, but the taproom will be phase two and likely to open in the first quarter of 2020."

Cornwall Council will make the final decision on both applications.
