A CHANCE conversation about erecting a billboard on a sports field at the gateway to the Lizard Peninsula, to raise awareness about a new superfast wireless internet provider, has led to a new community partnership.
A two-year sponsorship deal between Cornwall-based Wildanet and RNAS Culdrose Community Football Club is now in place and the result is new kit for the men’s first team and Lynx under-15s, a fixture board to promote future home games and high-speed WiFi for RNAS Culdrose FC’s clubhouse.
“Community is at the heart of Wildanet, so it is a great pleasure to sponsor a local club that is also the Football Association’s Charter Standard Club of the Year 2018 for setting the highest standards in offering a safe and enjoyable environment for community football,” said sales director of Wildanet, Barry Deadman.
“Wildanet is all about bringing superfast internet to hard-t0-reach rural areas that remain disadvantaged by slow, or non-existent, connectivity.
"RNAS Culdrose FC was unable to secure an internet connection from any of the big name providers so we were more than happy to oblige. This led to a wider sponsorship deal that will enable us to further develop the community focus that both partners aspire to.
RNAS Culdrose Community FC secretary and treasurer, Adam Cuthbert, said: “Wildanet’s generous sponsorship has provided a massive boost to the club.
“The first team and Lynx are proud to sport their smart new strips; the installation of the match day fixture board at the side of the main road will help us to attract new supporters and as a result of Wildanet WiFi, we can now stream football matches in the bar, which will help us to increase our revenue.
"We are enormously grateful to Wildanet for playing such a key part in our club refurbishment and we look forward to developing our partnership further.”
RNAS Culdrose FC’s first team currently plays in the LWC Drinks Combination League, which includes teams from across West Cornwall.
