Following Lorelle and the Obsolete’s triumphant gig at The Fish Factory last month, Wrong Way Records and Howl now bring the heavy psychedelic sounds of Italy’s New Candys to Penryn.

Formed in Venice in 2008, their influences have roots in The Velvet Underground and Syd Barrett.

Guitarist Fernando Nuti is no stranger to Cornwall having played in Lorelle and the Obsolete at last month’s Fish Factory gig, as well as with the band at Verdant Brewery in 2016 and Beerwolf Books in 2017.

They have released three critically acclaimed albums, their first “Stars Reach The Abyss” in 2012.

In 2015 they took part in “The Reverb Conspiracy”, compilation curated by Fuzz Club/The Reverberation Appreciation Society (Levitation Austin).

Later that year the “New Candys As Medicine”, album mixed by John Wills (producer and drummer of Loop), was released on both Picture In My Ear/Fuzz Club and added to The Committee To Keep Music Evil catalogue, receiving praises from Simone Marie Butler of Primal Scream and Stephen Lawrie of The Telescopes.

Three EU/UK tours followed, including festivals such as The Secret Garden Party 2015, Liverpool Psych Fest 2016 and Fuzz Club Eindhoven 2018.

Their third album “Bleeding Magenta” was released on October 6 on Fuzz Club; songs from it were featured on episodes of Showtime Networks original TV series “Shameless”.

They have shared the stage with The Warlocks, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Black Angels, A Place To Bury Strangers, Dead Skeletons, Crystal Stilts, Slowdive, Savages, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and The Vaccines among others.

The Fish Factory gig is part of the group’s 2019 European and North American tour.

New Candys play the Fish Factory, Commercial Road, Penryn on Friday, March 8, from 8pm to 11.30pm. Support comes from Falmouth based bands LIPS and Flashes.
