It was a show that made history by taking place on a Saturday for the first time ever.

Now the proceeds of this year's Helston Fatstock Show have been given to charity.

The Helston Fatstock Society that organises the event presented a cheque for £1,960 to Peter Martin from the Cornwall Air Ambulance Heli Appeal, the charity chosen by this year's show president Michael Collins.

It was handed over a celebratory dinner of the society enjoyed by more than 60 members and friends at Wheal Dream.

A spokesperson for the society said: "Thanks to the generosity of local businesses providing prizes and the support of those attending the show on the day, buying raffle tickets and bidding at the charity auction this superb amount was raised.

"All involved with Helston Fatstock Society were pleased with the success of this year’s show - this year for the first time on a Saturday - in the big shed at Franchis Farm, Wendron, kindly provided Bob Cowell, and for the support of everyone in the preparation prior to the show and on the day."
