Cockwells Celebrates Unprecedented Success

A BOATBUILDING company from Mylor Bridge is riding the crest of a wave following unprecedented success at a series of shows.

Cockwells Modern & Classic Boatbuilding enjoyed unprecedented success at Cannes Yachting Festival, Southampton Boat Show and Monaco Boat Show.

The company débuted at the Cannes Yachting Festival with the world première of the Titian Tender, which is not just another beautiful bespoke boat from the Mylor-based boatbuilder, but a masterpiece of artisan craftsmanship and technical ingenuity.

Not only did she turn heads and win hearts, she also scooped the post-1980s category of the Concours d’Élégance, which pays tribute to the rich history of yachting in the heart of the French Riviera.

Concours d'Élégance refers to an event where prestigious vehicles are displayed and judged. It dates back to 17th-century France when aristocrats paraded horse-drawn carriages through Parisian parks.

At the Cannes Yachting Festival, the Concours d'Élégance provides visitors with an opportunity to view the world’s most elegant vintage and modern day boats.

Declared ‘one of the world’s finest superyacht tenders’ by Boat International and a ‘Titian Masterpiece’ in its glowing three-page sea-trial, and an ‘exquisite vessel’ that is ‘a work of art as well as a riot to drive’ by Motor Boat & Yachting, the Titian Tender has certainly been enjoying her time in the spotlight.

‘A sleek machine’ and a ‘retro beauty’ are just some of the other epithets that have been used to describe this superlative craft that synthesises speed and style in a wide range of publications from British lifestyle magazines to the international superyacht industry press.

At the Southampton Boat Show, Cockwells launched a new concept for the Duchy 45 – two of which had already been sold – and accepted further commissions for four Duchy 35s, which won the 2018 Motor Boat & Yachting Motor Boat of the Year Award earlier this year.

At the Monaco Yacht Show, Cockwells exhibited the Titian Tender as well as the 9.5m Limousine Tender that was crowned winner of the Tender & Support Vessel Design category at the 2017 ShowBoats Design Awards, which attracted much attention.

“With a total of fifteen new boats to build, we are delighted to have a full order book that will see us well into 2021,” said managing director Dave Cockwell.

“Our new, modern, purpose-built facilities at Mylor Creek will enable us to custom build more boats, recruit more skilled staff and provide local yachtsmen with an enhanced portfolio of services through our new portal at The Lock House in Falmouth’s Port Pendennis Marina.

"The future looks bright as our reputation for outstanding craftsmanship and technological ingenuity continues to grow.”
