In true Cornish fashion Father Christmas arrived on a tractor to St Keverne’s Christmas lights switch on Friday night.

Despite the blustery conditions the village square was packed for the switching on of the festive lights, many of which were new for this year.

The event began with singing from pupils of St Keverne Primary School, before members of Maen Voes Choir led community carol singing accompanied by St Keverne Band in the lead up to the switch on.

New lights committee chairman Matt Ferguson then welcomed everyone to the event before thanking all who contributed, including the school children, band and choir.

He also thanked the Richards family for once again donating the village tree, Kevin and Claire in Temperance House for use of their electricity and everyone who donated prizes for the Christmas Draw, in particular Kellie's Kakes and Roskilly's for providing the second and third prizes.

He went on to thank the previous lights committee members who stood down this year after many years in post, including Michelle Patterson and Janet Patterson, before going on to thank everyone who had come forward this year to form a new committee and keep the lights going.

Five-year-old Kerys Vinnell was then invited up to switch on this year's lights, after winning a competition to create a new Christmas lights design for next year's display.

Shortly afterwards Father Christmas arrived on a vintage tractor driven by Brian Southgate and gave gifts to all the children in his brand new grotto.

There was also the chance for people to visit stalls a craft fair, a new addition to this year.
