Members of the Rotary Club of Truro Boscawen have been helping to create a festive atmosphere in the city at the same time as raising money to help homeless people by singing carols during this year’s late night shopping evenings.

Dressed in period costume, members of the group and friends sang at High Cross during last week’s late night shopping event - with a little help from Truro’s popular City Crier Lionel Knight.

The tuneful group will be performing between 5.30pm and 7pm at this week’s late night shopping evening (Wednesday, 12 December) and the following week (December 19), as well as between 10 and 11 am on Saturday, 15 December – again with a little help from Lionel.

Club president David Hughes said: “We wanted to support the city’s late night shopping festivities at the same time as raising money for local charities.

“This year the beneficiaries are St Petroc's for their work with homeless people, and also our own Rotary charitable fund which supports local good causes throughout the year.”

“We would like to thank the Dean and Chapter of Truro Cathedral and Head Verger Steve Rose for their support . We would also like to thank Lionel and his wife for their incredible support – come rain or shine Lionel does his amazing Oyez Oyez! between every two carols, which helps generate attention to the group - and allows the singers to draw a breath!

“We look forward to seeing members of the public at High Cross during the next late night shopping events - all are welcome to join in our singing - and to put a coin or two in the collecting bucket."
