Porthleven marked Armistice Day with two services on Sunday for the 100th anniversary of the end of World War One.

The first was at 11am at the war memorial in Peverell Terrace, where wreaths were laid and a two-minute silence observed.Well over 100 people attended to pay their respects.

In the afternoon the traditional parade then formed at the Public Hall. Led by Porthleven Town Band, it included mayor Andrew Wallis and members of the town council, along with personnel from RNAS Culdrose, guides and brownies from the area and other organisations.

The procession made its way to Fore Street Methodist Chapel for a service led by Rev Danny Reed.

The building was filled, with an even bigger attendance than usual, for the anniversary occasion.

After the service the town band led the procession to the war memorial for the laying of more wreaths.

The figure “100” was picked out in poppies to commemorate the signing of the Armistice century ago.

Due to St Sithney Church being temporarily closed for restoration to its floor - and the village war memorial being the church pulpit - church members joined the Porthleven service and laid a wreath afterwards, which was then taken back to Sithney and placed on the gate of the church porch.
