Falmouth's Poppy Appeal will be launched on Friday October 26, and the organiser is looking for help from volunteers.

They will be collecting in Sainbury's and throughout the town from October 27 to November 10, and shops, pubs and businesses will also receive their boxes this week.

The appeal is being organised by Wendy and David Frost, who own Rose's News on Killigrew Street.

This year marks 100 years since the guns fell silent and World War One ended, and also marks the first time women were allowed to vote in the UK.

As a tribute to those that are remembered on the war memorial in Kimberley Park, a large poppy has been dedicated to each one of the 229 men from Falmouth who sacrificed their lives.

These will be displayed at various places throughout the town including the Prince of Wales Pier and Events Square.

As ever, the organisers are looking for volunteers and would be grateful to anyone who can spare an hour to help collect for this year's appeal.

If you would like to volunteer, please contact Wendy Frost on 01326 210251 or falmouthpoppyappeal@hotmail.com for more information.
