A bit of sparkle came to Mawnan Smith on Friday night when the village WI held its fifth annual Charity Fashion Show.

More than 100 people packed into the Memorial Hall to enjoy a fantastic evening.

Twelve WI members dressed by Secrets and The March Hare took to the catwalk, provided by Falmouth University Academy of Music and Theatre Arts, and entertained the audience “strutting their stuff” to 1970s disco music.

The stage was decorated with an ornamental arch covered in ivy and fairy lights which set a magical scene.

As each model appeared from behind the sparkling backcloth, her outfit was described by the compere for the evening. At the interval delicious canapés made by WI members were served along with a glass of fizz.

This was followed by the raffle, which include donations from The Cove, Budock Vean Hotel, The Ferry Boat Inn, Trebah Gardens, Atha Yoga and The Priory to raise funds for Cornwall Air Ambulance and The Samaritans,

Mawnan WI president Sally Annan, who chose the charities, said: “We wanted to support their invaluable work in Cornwall. We visited the Air Ambulance some months ago and were horrified to learn that they rely completely on donations.

"Nationally the Women’s Institute is campaigning this year for greater understanding and support for mental health issues and we felt that The Samaritans do splendid work in this area and need our support. I would like to thank all our members who contributed to the success of this event in any way.”

More than £1,000 from the evening.
