There’s something stirring in Penryn – it’s called a food movement and its gaining momentum.

I’m a huge fan of Penryn restaurants, particularly the marvellous Muddy Beach Cafe and Daaku, the new Indian restaurant now housed in Islington Wharf– but there’s a new kid on the block in the shape of The Warehouse on Commercial Road.

Sandwiched between a glazing business and a cycle repair shop, The Warehouse is another shining example of how to make the best of fresh, Cornish ingredients and serve up some fantastic food.

I am always banging on about brunch, but for me brunch is really all about Sunday mornings.

So, once I had levered the cat off my chest I was finally able to get up and dress and make Mrs C her coffee – before heading out to Penryn on a beautiful sunny morning.

Mrs C chose the scrambled eggs with truffle on sourdough – which she described as ‘eggcellent’, adding “What makes this dish even better is the use of balsamic vinegar.”

I ordered the Breakfast Tacos which came with refried black beans, chargrilled squash, feta, a chilli fried egg and served with a fiery fresh lime salsa.

This is clever veggie cooking and great value for money given the sheer size of the portion.

Brunch is served till noon and then you can choose from the lunch menu which included sweet potato and coconut soup; an open sandwich with roasted tomatoes on the vine; kale pesto and an artichoke basil spread.

If you like vegetarian food The Warehouse is the place to go to enjoy fresh, vibrant food cooked with a whole lot of love.

The restaurant appears to be run by Cornish coffee firm, Origin – and to be honest, their flat white I sampled was probably the best coffee I have tasted in Cornwall.

As we walked out into the sunshine Mrs C suddenly stopped in her tracks and grabbed my hand.

“The thing about brunch,” she explained, “is it really sets you up for the rest of the day.”

“Oh really? So what else have you got planned?” I inquired.

“I thought maybe we should drop into the Muddy beach Café – I’d love a glass of their Pique Roque Rose.”

“I think you’ve just very skilfully set me up…”
