NEW plans have come forward to convert a pub that sits on the A30 near Hayle into new homes.

The Lamb & Flag pub in Canonstown is currently closed and now a planning application has been submitted to turn it into apartments and build new homes on the car park area.

Under the plans there would be 17 homes provided – three two-bedroom flats, three two-bedroom houses, three three-bedroom houses and eight four-bedroom houses.

There will be 13 new-build homes, with the former pub converted into three apartments and the beer cellar converted into a self-contained apartment.

A design and access statement included with the planning application says the housing will be a mix of terraced, detached and semi-detached homes.

The statement adds: β€œThe Lamb & Flag has been failing as a public house for a number of years.

"There has been many attempts by different landlords but this has followed by closure of the public house and vacant periods.”

It is stated that the development would provide a mix of open market and affordable housing for the local area.

The planning application was validated this week by Cornwall Council.

No date has been set for when it will be determined.
