Residents of Dracaena Place fear that they "will have land stolen from them" if a planning application to build two houses goes ahead.

But Alex Kiszczuk, the architect behind the plans and son of the applicants, says the objections are based on "misinformation."

Dan Wilson, speaking at a meeting of Falmouth Town Council's planning committee on behalf of residents, said: "We are all completely bewildered by how the applicants have applied for this plan.

"It seems unfair that the people of Dracaena Place will have land stolen from them that they have used for generations."

Alex Kiszczuk told the Packet: "The land that's being developed is owned. It's rear gardens.

"All of the properties that have garages are still going to be able to use the lane to access their garages.

"There's a little bit of misinformation with people thinking that this land is being stolen when that's not the case."

Objections raised at the planning meeting mentioned the fact that a portion of the land involved in the plan is not registered to any owner.

Alex says that the only unregistered land in the plan is a lane which will still be accessible to residents.

Councillor Steve Eva said: "[The applicants] are from London so I don't know how they would have done a consultation."

Alex told the Packet that although he lives in London, he is designing the houses for his dad Bob and mum Hilary, who is parish secretary for St Mary's Church.

He also says that they consulted neighbours on Dracaena Avenue and Tregenver Road who had no objections.

One neighbour, St Mawes harbour master Martin Bidmead, even wanted to get involved in the development and offered land in his garden to be built on.

Residents of Dracaena Place were not consulted, and Dan Wilson said "there was immediate anger about the proposal" when they found out about it on Thursday.

He also said: "There seems to be a backhandedness and cover-up of this application."

In response, Alex says that they followed pre-application advice saying that there was nothing significant about the proposal which would affect residents of Dracaena Place, which is why they were not consulted.

Falmouth Town Council recommended the application for refusal. It will now go to Cornwall Council's planning department who will have the final say.
