It is after a report carried out as part of a larger restoration of the park showed that the skatepark, which was already second hand when it was installed in 2007, would “not survive another winter.”

Dave Bateman, who organised the event with his partner Clare, said: "There was a fantastic community spirit and it has re-ignited the passion for the skatepark."

He gave particular thanks to Sketch from Urban Gypset in Helston, who created the mural on the day from scratch, the Roots skate shop in Penzance that donated raffle prizes and their time to help run the skate jam and everyone else who donated raffle prizes and those who volunteered on the day. He also thanked Old Cattle Market manager Sarah Vine and her staff for making the event a reality.

Visitors during the four hours could enjoy skate competitions and demonstrations, a bake sale and live music.

The campaign, which also has an online donation page at justgiving.com/crowdfunding/revampthe-ramps, hopes to raise money towards a shortfall of £6,000. There are now plans to run the event again next year.
