A driver left his car parked on top of the petrol tanks at Boslowick Garage after a night out.

A tanker which travelled from Plymouth had to wait for more than two hours before police found the man and dropped him off so he could move his car and the tanks could be refilled.

Boslowick Garage owner Jackie Chaney-Spiers said: "It was a bloody nightmare. People parking here is a regular thing, just because it's an open space."

She said that CCTV footage showed the man parking on top of the tanks last night (Sunday August 12) before getting out of his car with a takeaway and getting into a waiting taxi.

When the tanker arrived at 7.15am this morning (Monday August 13), the driver found the tanks blocked and was unable to refill them.

Jackie contacted police who identified the car's driver and attempted to track him down whilst she put up a Facebook post hoping to find the man in the meantime.

She said that they could not legally move the car themselves and had to wait for the driver to show up and move it instead.

Jackie said: "Luckily we had enough fuel to see us through."

At around 9.30am, the man hitched a ride with the police and finally moved his car, but after all that, Jackie says he did not even offer a word of apology.

Jackie said: "People just don't think."
