The volunteer crew members of the Lizard Lifeboat have been called to two rescues in the space of 24 hours.

The first followed reports of a kayak in the water, with no one onboard and its paddle floating nearby, in the water off Poldhu beach.

The lifeboat was scrambled but before it arrived the owner of the kayak was spotted safe and well on land and the crew was stood down, returning to the station a short time later.

Penlee Lifeboat and Mullion Coastguards were also sent, with the crew from Penlee recovering the kayak from the sea and returned it to its waiting owner on the beach.

A second launch followed the next morning, shortly after 7.45am, when the lifeboat was called to help a 32 foot yacht Fair Emma, which was four miles south of Lizard Point.

With four people onboard, the yacht had suffered a complete engine failure and with no wind was unable to sail. Arriving on scene, the lifeboat crew attached a tow and the yacht was safely towed to Newlyn. The lifeboat returned to station at Kilcobben Cove, arriving at 11.37am.
