MP asks Prime Minister question about radiotherapy services in Cornwall - but gets the name of the centre wrong

During Prime Minister’s question time Mr Thomas asked Theresa May what she would be doing to reassure his constituents that radiotherapy services will not be moved out of the "Sunset" Centre at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro. However it is not the Sunset Centre it is the Sunrise Centre.

The mistake could have been put down to nerves, however he compounded his error by posting the wrong centre name on his Facebook page and on his Twitter account.

The error was met with horror by some of his constituents who commented on Facebook. Margaret Mcclelland said: “Oh no! SUNRISE centre! Not Sunset! Please correct!!"

While Margaret Cartwright said: "Sunrise not Sunset please."

Immediately after the Packet contacted Mr Thomas for a comment the Facebook and Twitter posts were changed.

Eleanor Batley constituency support manager apologised for the error. She said: "I would like to apologise for the error which has now been corrected, it was initially a typo from the office and unfortunately was not picked up immediately."

Replying to Mr Thomas the Prime Minister said she did recognise the importance of insuring that people have access to these treatments that they require. "We do recognise the issues people face in relation to travelling to those centres where those services are available," she said.

"This is primarily a decision to be taken at a local level."

She said she would encourage people to take part in the consultation and respond to the consultation so their views can truly be heard and taken into account.

A public consultation is currently taking place on whether to move radiotherapy treatment for cancer sufferers from the Sunrise Centre in Truro to Plymouth.
