Fifteen local good causes received a share of the cash raised at this summer's carnival when Falmouth Marine Band held its annual presentation evening.

Cheques totalling just under £3,000 were handed out at the event held in the Falmouth Town Council chamber and hosted by the town's mayor, Grenville Chappel and his wife, June.

Band leader Keith Hosen said: "We are humbled by the people of Falmouth who came out to support our carnival back in August enabling us to support 15 local Cornish causes."

This year's recipients were: Inspire Health Cornwall, Children's Hospice South West, Falmouth Rugby Club, Falmouth Community Football, Falmouth and Helston Cats Protection, Swamp Circus Trust, Falmouth Cruise Ship Ambassadors, Cornwall Hospice Care, Falmouth RNLI, Last Chance Animal Rescue, the Merlin Centre, the Flicka Foundation, Fal Care, Scruffy Mutt Theatre and the Cornish Culture Association.

In addition to the cheque presentations, former band leader Paul Wickes was also honoured during the evening, receiving his 21 years service medal from the current band leader.
