Charity BF Adventure is to build a new, accessible, adventure barn at their site just outside Penryn.

The new building will replace the dilapidated marquee and will mean that young people, children and adults will be able to enjoy year round activities regardless of the Cornish weather.

The charity based at Goodygrane Activity Centre at Halvasso was established in 1989 by a group of individuals who recognised the potential of using adventures activities and the outdoor environment to positively influence the physical and mental wellbeing of children and young people.

BF Adventure has received huge support from local businesses and charitable organisations, to secure most of the funding for its new barn. One organisation supporting the project is Classic Cottages, whose chairman, Simon Tregoning, said: “We are delighted to help BF with their adventure barn. Much as we extol the virtues of the Cornish climate to the guests who stay in our holiday cottages, we do know that it can rain in Cornwall.

"Giving BF Adventure a wet weather option is such an obvious step in allowing them to provide more help to their cohort of young people that we felt compelled to give them the last bit of funding.”

Planning permission is in place and the charity is getting ready to break the soil in early January. CEO Adrian Richards, said: “We are over the moon to have received so much support for this project. Yet again local businesses have come up trumps and supported us, and Cornish young people to build a brighter future.

"I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone that has supported this project, we are nearly there and have just a few things left to fund. If anyone would like to make a donation to this project, please see our website bfadventure.org for full details of outstanding items and our donations page. Every pound helps.”

The project is due for completion by Easter and will hopefully include a five-a-side football and multi-ball sports pitch, a varied and accessible climbing and boulder wall, giant swing, crate stack activity and high rope challenge course. The adventure barn will be used all year round for up to 4,000 young people of whom 500 are severely/multiply disadvantaged/disabled. It will be fully accessible for disabled clients and available for community use

Programme manager, Rachael Stephens, said: “BF Adventure supports young people in need all year round. As an outdoor centre, we often manage to entice them out in all weathers however, this is sometimes difficult, especially when young people are experiencing hardship. Providing a comfortable indoor space with lots of great activities will give us the basis we need to support young people to achieve and succeed.”
