Falmouth Town Council is now the proud owner of a painting on silk of HMS Falmouth created when the ship was docked in Hong Kong in the mid seventies.
George Haverly, the Cornish representative of the Ganges Association, met with Falmouth's mayor, Grenville Chappel, and his wife, June, recently to hand over the painting, which dates back to 1974/75.
The picture had been owned by the Ganges Association and until very recently had been among its collection on display in Portsmouth.
The association, though, felt that as the painting was of HMS Falmouth, its rightful place is as part of the town council's collection. The painting will now be displayed in the mayor's parlour.
