The Lizard Lifeboat was launched shortly after 3pm on Friday, September 15, to go the assistance of a 22 foot yacht, About Time, which was three miles off Lizard Point.
Three people were on board, one of whom was suffering from severe sea sickness and was unable to travel any further. The casualty was transferred to the lifeboat and taken back to the station where medical assistance was waiting.
The remaining two crew members on board the yacht were unable to continue with their journey so the lifeboat returned to its position and safely towed the yacht in to Newlyn. RNLB Rose returned to her station at Kilcobben Cove at around 7.30pm that evening.
A second service launch followed two days later, on Sunday, when the lifeboat was required to launch at 4.40pm to go to the assistance of a 38 foot yacht, Gem, which had three people on board. Two miles off Lizard Point the yacht had suffered mechanical failure and was becalmed. The lifeboat arrived on scene and towed it to Falmouth, arriving there at 7.40pm. Rose arrived back at the station at 8.30pm and was prepared ready for service.
