There were smiles everywhere you looked this morning as teenagers celebrated their A level achievements at Falmouth School.

Falmouth College, the school's sixth form, has once again produced above national average results with 83 per cent A level or equivalent qualifications being graded at A* to C.

Over a quarter of students achieved the top grade across the whole college. There were 47 A*, A, Distinction* and Distinction grades. Nineteen students gained at least one A*, A or Distinction*. Every BTEC student achieved a Distinction or above with 95 per cent of those at Distinction*.

Outstanding individual performances included Rebecca Watts (A*, A*, A); Madeleine George (A*, A, A); Rachel Elvans (A, A, A and extended project grade A*); Lauren Cowie (A, A, B and extended project grade A*); Anna Freeman (A, A and Distinction*); Olivia Crisp (A*, A, B) and Will Luscombe (A, A, B and extended project A*).

Will Luscombe and Rebecca Watts both have places at Exeter University to study physics, where they will be joined by Madeleine George studying biological sciences. Rachel Elvans will be studying biochemistry at Cardiff University and Olivia Crisp has secured her place at Birmingham to read geography.

Performing Arts Diploma students gain awards equivalent to three A levels and congratulations go to Chloe Hunt (triple Distinction*) and Katie Pewsey (double Distinction* and Distinction) who will be studying dance at Roehampton and dance and choreography at Falmouth University, respectively.

Vocational courses in child care, construction and hairdressing have also produced superb results. Ben Watts has achieved his qualification in construction and is now starting an apprenticeship for Cormac. Jess Jose, Millie Bisgrove and Katie Edwards have completed their child care and early years learning course with Jess taking up a place at University of St Mark and St John in primary education.

"It’s wonderful to see students who have worked so hard succeeding and moving on to the next exciting phase of their lives," said Dr Matt Fox, head of Falmouth College. "We look forward to welcoming our next group of local students joining us after their GCSE results next week."
