The funeral service will be held this afternoon (Wednesday) for former school teacher and Falmouth councillor Brinley Morris who died at his home at the age of 91.

Mr Morris was born on March 5, 1926, in the small Welsh mining village of Blaengarw. He served in Africa during World War II and went on to carve out a career in singing as a tenor and then as a music teacher.

He came to Falmouth in 1962 to be head of music at the Girls High School, only intending to stay for a few years before moving on his career path. However, after just a few days he suggested to his wife Myra, that the town would be "the perfect place" to raise their three sons. She agreed, and the couple stayed in Falmouth for the rest of their lives.

As well as being a teacher, for the last ten years before retirement he was also the National Union of Teachers' representative for Cornwall and helped so many people and schools during this time.

After retiring he became a town, district and county councillor and was also a member of Falmouth Civic Society, and its chair for a while.

Mr Morris is survived by his three sons, David, Simon and Paul. His funeral service will be held in the Trelawney Chapel at Penmount Crematorium at 2pm today. It will be followed by interment in the Wild Flower Meadow.
