The crew of Cornwall Air Ambulance was called into action 82 times in July to medical emergencies including a serious road traffic incident and a 25ft fall from a tree.
The crew flew 64 missions on the air ambulance helicopter and responded 18 times in the critical care cars to emergencies including cardiac arrests, falls from height and burns.
One incident saw the crew treating a casualty who had fallen from a lawnmower and suffered a serious leg wound from the blades. The casualty was given emergency medical care on scene and taken to Derriford Hospital for further treatment.
Cornwall Air Ambulance, a charity funded by donations, also responded to a 999 call for help following reports of a road traffic collision near Lostwithiel on Saturday 8 July. The driver was trapped in the vehicle and sustained chest and leg injuries. Following their release from the vehicle, the casualty received emergency medical care by the crew before being transferred to Derriford Hospital for further treatment.
And the helicopter was also scrambled to an incident involving a casualty having fallen from a wall near Newquay. The casualty sustained head, back, chest and pelvis injuries and was taken to Derriford Hospital for specialist treatment.
Across Cornwall, the crew of the air ambulance responded to reports of 36 medical emergencies and 45 trauma incidents, including 23 cardiac related emergencies, 15 road traffic collisions, nine injuries from falls, three sporting injuries and two burns.
Each year Cornwall Air Ambulance carries out more than 700 missions to people in urgent need of medical help. As a charity, it relies on donations to carry out this lifesaving work. You can find out more about how to support the charity at cornwallairambulancetrust.org.
